Enter your children in the Amtrak 2008 National “Children of Amtrak” Art Contest and their artwork could be part of a photography and art gallery as part of National Train Day on May 10, 2008. Four grand-prize winners may receive a free family trip to the closest National Train Day entertainment venue (with accommodations) for the May 10 events as well as special recognition. The contest deadline has been extended until May 2, 2008.

2008 NATIONAL "CHILDREN OF AMTRAK" ART CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES

Contest: Art that best captures the essence of passenger train travel and/or National Train Day.

Eligibility: This contest is open to children of all Amtrak employees and contractors between the ages of six and 12, except for children of the judges and employees of Amtrak Government Affairs and Corporate Communications and Marketing and Product Development. Children of Amtrak advertising agency employees are also ineligible. Amtrak reserves the right to verify eligibility qualifications of any winner.

How to Enter: Artwork should be completed on paper with a stiff backing and no larger than 8 ½ x 11 inches in size. Any materials can be used including, but not limited to, paint, crayon, pencil, pastel. Each entry must be clearly labeled on the back with child’s full name and date of birth, full name and job title of Amtrak parent or legal guardian, home address, and Amtrak employee’s day and evening phone numbers. The front of the artwork may not include names, signatures or other identifying marks. Entries must be postmarked by May 2, 2008 and received by May 7,2008. This contest ends May 2, 2008 at midnight EDT. No purchase necessary. Amtrak shall not be responsible for late, lost, incomplete, damaged, misdirected, illegible or postage-due entries. Judging: Entries will be reviewed and evaluated to determine the best interpretation of passenger train travel and/or National Train Day by one of four three-person panels located at the addresses above. Entries will be separated into two age groups: six to nine years of age and 10 to 12 years of age. A single grand-prize winner from either age group will be selected to represent each location, for a total of four grand-prize winners. Four second-place winners and four third place winners will be also be selected from either age group.

Conditions of Entry: By entering this contest, the entrant’s parent or legal guardian agrees that if his or her child is selected as a prizewinner, he or she will assign all rights to the artwork, including copyright, to Amtrak by executing an assignment agreement and Amtrak will own all rights to the artwork and may use it for any purpose. If a winning entry includes a recognizable image of an individual, the winner must have that individual sign an Amtrak publicity release form. By entering this contest, entrant’s parent or legal guardian agrees to the Official Rules. Entries will not be acknowledged or returned. Amtrak reserves the right to verify eligibility qualifications of any winner. Failure of the winner to meet any of the conditions of entry, including returning signed releases, will result in disqualification and an alternate winner will be selected.

Prize: Amtrak will award four grand prizes, either: (1) a free family trip voucher good for anywhere Amtrak travels. The four second- and four third-place winners will receive Amtrak merchandise. Travel vouchers shall be valid for one year from date of issuance and all travel is subject to availability and to Amtrak’s contract of carriage. All taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners. No prize substitutions or cash substitutions are permitted, except by Amtrak for reason of unavailability in which a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded. Travel vouchers are not transferable to another party. All prizes will be awarded. All prize winners will have their entries displayed at the National Train Day entertainment venue to which their entries were submitted. Electronic versions of the entries will also be posted on the National Train Day micro site — www.nationaltrainday.com.

Winner Selection: The grand-prize, second- and third-place winners will be determined on or about May 8, 2008. The judges’ decisions are final. The prizewinners will be notified by telephone, mail and/or e-mail, if provided. All winners will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility, publicity release and copyright assignment, and return it properly executed within five days of attempted notification as a condition of awarding the prize. If prize notification is returned as undeliverable or the winner fails to return the affidavit, release and license, as applicable, the winner is disqualified and an alternate finalist will be selected. If, in Amtrak’s opinion, there is any suspected or actual evidence of tampering with or alteration of any portion of the contest, Amtrak reserves the right to terminate the contest.

Winners List: For the names of the winners, after May 10, 2008, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to Children of Amtrak Art Contest, Attention: Kevin M. Briscoe, Amtrak, 60 Massachusetts Avenue, N.E., Washington, DC 20002. Winners will also be posted on the National Train Day micro site. Requests received more than 60 days after the completion of the entry period will not be honored. Vermont residents need not send stamped envelope.
